Off-Grid Power
The problem
No grid, or a grid that fails for hours a day. Diesel is expensive to buy and to carry in, and everything that needs power — a clinic fridge, a classroom, a trade store, a kiosk — stops when the fuel does.
Size a system with the calculator
How we solve it
Solar and battery systems sized for what the site actually runs, from a single power station for a Starlink Mini up to arrays that carry a kiosk, a health post and the buildings around it. Where a stream runs year-round, a small hydro turbine paired with solar gives power through the wet season.
What's included
- Site assessment: what runs, for how many hours, and where the sun is
- Solar panels, lithium batteries and inverters sized to the load
- Hybrid micro-hydro where the site suits it
- Installation and commissioning to the National Energy Act by a licensed electrician
- Monitoring, so a failing battery is seen before the lights go out
How much solar does my site need?
Tick what runs at the site and how many hours a day. The calculator gives a starting size for panels, battery and inverter. We confirm it with a site assessment before anything is quoted.
How the sums work
- Daily energy = watts × hours for everything ticked, plus 25% for inverter and cable losses.
- Panels = daily energy ÷ sun hours, rounded up — sized to refill the battery in one average day.
- Battery = 1.5 days of energy, so a cloudy day does not turn the lights off, using lithium at 80% usable depth.
- Inverter = everything that could be on at once, plus 30% headroom.
Wattages are typical figures; a fridge, for example, varies a lot. Treat the result as a starting point, not a specification.
Pricing
Prices in kina, GST included. Every site is different, so most solutions are quoted per site — tell us where and for how many people.
Or take it as the Rural Starter Kit bundle — connectivity, power and installation quoted together.
Common questions
How big a system do I need?
Tell us what you run and for how many hours in the quote form — devices, lights, a fridge, a kiosk — and we size it. A phone-charging shop needs far less than a clinic.
How long do the batteries last?
Lithium batteries sized correctly last for years; we monitor their health so replacements are planned, not emergencies.
Can it grow later?
Yes. Panels and batteries can be added as the site's needs grow.
Hybrid micro-hydro and solar
Where a stream runs year-round, a small hydro turbine paired with solar and batteries powers a kiosk and the buildings around it — a health post, a school, a trade store. See the project outline on the Impact page.
